A Uniden R9W Is Only as Good as the Installation Behind It: The R9W is the most advanced radar and laser detection system available. But, purchasing the best equipment is only half of the equation. How that equipment is installed is what separates an ordinary R9W system from a Vanguard R9W system. At Vanguard, every vehicle is treated as an individual project. The system is engineered around the vehicle's design, construction, electronics, and interior.

We Fabricate Our Own Solutions.

Custom fabrication separates our installations from other shops. At Vanguard we don't limit ourselves to universal brackets or whatever mounting location happens to be easiest. When something doesn't fit correctly, we make something that will. That can mean building custom brackets for radar receivers, laser heads, displays, controls, or other components of the system. It takes considerably more time, but the end result is a cleaner installation that was actually built around that specific vehicle.

Laser heads & radar recievers

Placement isn't guesswork.

You can't just stick laser heads somewhere in the grille because they fit there. Placement, height, spacing, level and line of sight all play a role in how the system performs.

Laser Head Alignment: We take the time to properly position and align every laser head for performance, not convenience. The goal is a precise, level installation with the clear line of sight the system needs to operate properly.

Radar Receiver Placement: Modern front ends are packed with equipment, including active grille shutters, factory radar sensors, crash structures, cooling systems, ducting, cameras, and different types of plastic and grille materials. Every one of these factors needs to be considered when determining where the R9W radar receivers should be installed.

DISASSEMBLY & WIRING

We Take the Car Apart

A proper installation sometimes means taking the vehicle apart. That can mean removing the front bumper, grilles, wheel liners, underbody panels, interior trim, trunk panels, overhead consoles or even portions of the dashboard.

Why? Because that's how you properly run wiring, hide components and get access to the places where the equipment actually belongs.

Wiring: There's a big difference between hiding a wire and properly routing a wire. Our wiring follows factory paths whenever possible. It's protected, secured and fused correctly, and modules and connections are mounted rather than left hanging behind panels.

FACTORY INTEGRATION

The Interior Should Still Look Factory

Display & Controls: We spend time figuring out where the R9W display and controls should go. Depending on the vehicle, that may be around the steering column, overhead console, center console or another location that makes sense with the factory interior.

The goal is simple: easy to see and easy to use when you need it — but almost invisible when you don't

FINAL INSPECTION

It's Not Finished When It Turns On

Getting power to the R9W doesn't mean the installation is finished. After installation, we check the positioning and alignment of the sensors, configure the system, verify operation and make sure everything is working correctly before the vehicle leaves. We also go back over the vehicle itself — panels, trim, wiring and anything else that was removed during the installation.

So Why Does a Vanguard R9W Installation Cost More?

You're paying for the time it takes to plan the installation, take the vehicle apart, fabricate custom parts, properly position the equipment, run the wiring correctly, integrate everything into the interior, put the vehicle back together, configure the system and test it.

It could be installed faster, but that's not what we do. We want someone to look at one of our finished installations and wonder where everything is. More importantly, we want equipment positioned where it can actually do its job. Same R9W. Completely different installation.
